Starting a new job as a Scrum Master or Agile leader can be tough.
It’s all about earning the trust and respect of your team.
You're the new person, so it's important to fit in with how the team already does things.
They might be used to different rules or a different kind of leader.
It's really important to show you're good at your job.
But it's just as important to listen to your team and make sure they know their ideas matter.
Building trust takes time.
You need to be kind, patient, and thoughtful in how you lead everyone.
So, here are 8 steps to build trust and respect with your team
🟣 1) Show Respect to Gain Respect
✅ Treat everyone fairly.
Listen actively and value each team member's input. Mutual respect is the first step towards building a strong team.
🟣 2) Take Thoughtful Actions
✅ Always choose actions that feel right to you.
(When team members see your genuine efforts, respect follows naturally.)
🟣 3) Introduction Matters
✅ Start strong by having a leader introduce you to the team.
(Highlighting your past achievements helps set the stage for respect and trust.)
🟣 4) Recognize the Signs
✅ Pay attention to how the team interacts with you.
Disrespect or distrust can show in their words, actions, or even lack of eye contact.
🟣 5) Consistency is Key
✅ Maintain a consistent leadership style. Sudden changes can confuse the team.
(A steady approach builds stability and trust.)
🟣 6) Share Your Stories
✅ Use personal experiences to connect and teach.
(Sharing stories from your past roles can enhance your credibility and make your advice more relatable.)
🟣 7) Be Firm and Fair
✅ Support your team, but also guide them. Be clear and logical in your suggestions for improvements.
(An assertive approach shows you care for the team's success.)
🟣 8) Build on Trust
✅ Respect and trust aren't given; they're earned. Be patient and persistent.
(Every small action counts towards building a strong leadership foundation.)
Remember,
Every action you take builds trust.
Every story you share strengthens your connection.
Be mindful of your own actions (That’s how you build trust in your teams.)
